71. Invocation Text Addressed to Lay Devotees

On in the Won Era, all adherents, with purified mind and body, confess humbly before the honorable spirits of lay devotees of each grade. Generally, since all the buddhas and bodhisattvas in the world could not organize the Order without true believers, true believers are the basis and fundamentals of the Order. Alas! At the times when the fortune of heaven shined again and the Way of the world opened again at the crisis when the minds under heaven were greatly confused, and the waves of the Degenerate-age have been turbulent for a long time, the Founding Master appeared in this world to deliver all sentient beings who are wandering in the sea of suffering with the ideals of a Great Opening of spirit and the morality of salvation for all sentient beings and curing the world. However, at that time when there were very little who recognized a sage and there were not many who believed in the right dharma, and also when the foundation of the Order still had not been established, all of you with an affinity of the past participated in the Order above all and became a devout believer of this teaching and dharma, and became a true cooperator of this work. Then, establishing the foundation of this Order gradually and completely, you, following without rest, according to the situation and circumstances in some case mentally, in some case bodily, and in some case by material things, exerted all your dedication to the development of this Order's works respectively directly or indirectly. Even while residing in this dusty world, all of your spirits were residing freely in the dharma realm always, as a lotus flower in the dirt and a bodhisattva in the secular world. Even while living a life in a private home, your works were done always for the public Way, becoming a master of this Order in the eternal world. Since the merits of all of you are high like a mountain and deep like a sea, we believe that your merits and blessings will become immeasurable according to our Order's fortune of the Way. Fortunately, we participated in this sacred Order to bask in the grace you bestowed. Making an oath to carry on this holy work far into the future, we offer a dedication of gratitude. Oh, honored spirits of the lay devotees of each grade. Watch over us.
