Chapter 5. Forging of Relationships by the Grace of the Dharma

Section 1. About Forging of Relationships by the Grace of the Dharma

Forging of Relationships by the Grace of the Dharma (ŭnbŏp-kyŏlŭi) is conducted to mutually encourage practice and work, and to protect the spirit and flesh among adherents whether lay or ordained. It is, according to the stipulations of Regulations of the Order, to form ties of “Father‐and‐Son in Grace,” or, “Mother‐and‐Daughter in Grace,” among those who have similar backgrounds or tendencies and to carry out life obligations together with the kinship of a family. The Forging of Relationships Ceremony is a rite of openly declaring this tie before the pledger’s teachers, elders, colleagues, and friends, and vowing to maintain that mutual obligation and fidelity to the end.
