Guide to Conduct and Ceremony
Part 1. General Propriety
Chapter 11. Meals
Section 1. About Meals
Eating is indispensable for living; it sustains life. In addition to the three meals a day, there are many other opportunities for people to eat. If people neglect courtesy while eating, it can easily give an unpleasant feeling to others. Furthermore, if there is discourtesy when several people are eating together, one could naturally be held in disrespect, so one must always be careful of this courtesy.
