Sūtra in Forty-Two Sections

Section 8

The Buddha said: “An evil man trying to harm a sage is like spitting up into the sky: the spittle does not sully heaven but ends up only sullying the spitter. It is like throwing dirt into the wind: it ends up only dirtying himself. A sage cannot be injured; transgressions invariably devastate the doer.”
