45. The Master said, “What the Founding Master most disliked was a disciple who, disregarding both the public and one’s fellows, cultivated a special practice for oneself alone, thus seeking ‘just to purify oneself.’ Only those who, together with all comrades, cultivate a Mahāyāna practice that is one suchness in action or rest and carry out a Mahāyāna enterprise that shares the suffering and happiness of all comrades are true disciples of the Founding Master and our sincere comrades.”
