Ordinary people can only see the immediate move before their eyes, but sages manage to see tens or even hundreds of moves in advance. Thus, ordinary beings accumulate infinite transgressions and suffering by pursuing only immediate gains and comfort in this life; but sages rest content amid poverty and delight in the Way, and continuously exert themselves in mind practice and public service, even sacrificing the minor blessings and happiness of the present, for the sake of eternal wisdom and merit.”
