21. The Master said, “When I see those who live at this practice site but who have abandoned all their aspirations to practice, I am distressed at how heavy their past karmic obstructions must be. We should be filled with awe when we consider the principles of birth and death, transgression and merit, but I can only feel pity when I see those who, having entered this religious order, still spend their lives heedlessly.”
