39. The Master said, “If a certain matter is not a grave injustice or will not cause great loss, do not be too confrontational about it. Creating opponents through discord regarding an insignificant matter could bring about a great loss regarding an important matter.” The Master continued, “There is no great loss in letting someone else win. Embrace the right cause and win just twenty to thirty percent of the time. A superior person lets oneself lose, even when one has the ability to win. A lesser person insists on winning, even when he does not have the ability to win.”
